PKMNation - Why Regulus left

As Regulus sat on the porch of his ranch, he smiled weakly, watching the young girl run through the vegetable patch with the Pikipek trio she adored so much. Having gone to see Rigel when he first got back, he hadn't had time to explain why he'd left, he had wanted to explain first, but seeing her made him do something stupid. He proposed. She'd said no. Slamming the door in his face, he hadn't been able to explain... When he went back later that day she was gone.
Now here he sat, waiting for some word that she'd see him, Regulus needed to explain to the girl he loved that he hadn't abandoned her, he had to save this young girl now giggling as she dashed through the mud.

"Come on Alpha! You can go faster!" She squealed at the Pikipek with the purple bow, the bird pokemon flapped harder, catching up with her friends.

"Pik!" Alpha shouted, just as excited as the human girl who had now changed direction, followed by the other two birds.

Regulus zoned out, thinking about how he was going to word it.

One Year Before

Regulus was sat in very much the same position he was sat in the present day, the only difference was that he had so many pokemon running through the vegetable patch. He laughed, until Atlas came running towards him with a letter.

"What you got?" He asked the tiny shiny pumpkaboo, who waved it in his face. "Okay, I'll read it...." The man opened the letter, not knowing who it could possibly be from, his eyes ran over the words and he froze, knowing that there was no way he could get there with all of his pokemon. Making a quick decision, he told Atlas that he would have to go to Rigel, handing him a note that said I've got to go - A family emergency - I will see you as soon as I get back - Love Reg - P.S. Take care of Atlas for me?

Walking to the ranch next door, he begged Katie to help him find homes for the rest of the pokemon he couldn't take with him. Only able to take 9 of his precious pokemon with him. He left that night.

Journeying through the region, he finally made it to his sister's home, she was the only family he had left in the world. Darcy sat propped up in bed, her young daughter sat silently on a chair next to her mother. Regulus had never seen her looking so fragile in all his life, she was his big sister and now seeing her look so small and breakable broke his heart. Taking care of her was all he could do to say sorry for not knowing that she was so sick, he promised to always take care of Sephie, even though he was so young.

When Darcy passed, Regulus chose to stay at her home for a while longer, he didn't want to uproot Sephie anymore than he needed to at that point. When she was finally ready to leave they made their way back to the Canis Major Ranch. Sensing she needed something to make her feel at home, Regulus asked her what pokemon she loved the most in the world, when she chose Pikipek Regulus searched tirelessly until he found the three which had now become her constant companions. He made the decision to allow her to breed as many Pikipeks as she wanted.
